0.1RC1 : the fake Release Candidate.

In December 07 we released openSpeak 0.1RC1. It’s main goal was to give testers something to bite and give a little kick to the developers who where asleep at that time (I was part of those :) ).

Usually Release Candidate means Feature Freeze, but it was really not the case with this one !

You should see a v0.1RC2 soon and this one will be a true release candidate, solving some problems of the RC1 that were not acceptable to let “as is” in a final version : sound was crappy and it didn’t work on Mac due to a buggy netcode.

Features highlights of the forthcoming 0.1RC2 :

  • Mac support (in addition of Linux and Windows)
  • Improved netcode stability
  • Better sound quality (thanks to a jitter buffer implementation)
  • Better looking chat windows
  • Lower latency (about -50% on LAN) (no yet in the SVN trunk)

So stay tuned !

New homepage and a first release candidate

The openSpeak team is reporting back after a long period without any news or updates. We even brought something with us: a new website and the first release candidate of version 0.1 of openSpeak.

Our new website might still have smaller bugs or viewing issues (especially if you’re using Internet Explorer (what you surely shouldn’t do)). If you found one of those, please add a bug report (maybe with a small picture) to our bugtracker or send us an email (see the team page for email addresses).

As the website, the release candidate probably got some bigger or smaller bugs or GUI problems and we would be happy if you could give us some informations by adding a bug to the bugtracker or just talking with us about it on irc. We released this version because we haven’t found the time to do some extensive testing (especially with more than 2 people talking) in the last half year. We’re all pretty busy at the moment and can’t spend as much time on openSpeak as we would like to. So if you got a server or shell, feel free to test and use openSpeak with your friends and report back to us how your experience was, what could be better or what bugs you’ve found. To get the release candidate check out our sf.net download page

A late merry christmas and a happy new year!
